The excursion to Humantay Lagoon is a very unique route, thanks to the beautiful landscapes along the way, such as the Apurimac River canyon, which contrasts with the elevation of the snow-capped mountains. Humantay Lagoon is a water reserve that comes directly from the melting snow of the Humantay Snow Mountain. Its crystal-clear waters have striking colors that range from blue to emerald, impossible to reproduce in photographs. Throughout the area, you can breathe the pure air and feel the energy of its mystical mountains.
DESCRIPTION:
Humantay Lagoon is located 128 km northwest of Cusco, in the Mollepata district. It is recommended to leave very early to appreciate its beauty in complete tranquility.
The first leg of the trip, approximately three hours, departs towards the town of Mollepata (2,803 m.a.s.l.), for breakfast (optional). The route to this place is defined by its unparalleled landscapes: the Apurimac River Canyon (1,780 meters above sea level) is the lowest, and the Salkantay Snow-capped Mountain (6,270 meters above sea level) is the highest.
The adventure begins from the town of Soraypampa (2,900 meters above sea level), along a bridle path that ascends to Humantay Lagoon (4,200 meters above sea level). Despite the altitude, the trail is a mystical experience, offering a pure atmosphere, far from noise and pollution.
After an hour and a half of hiking, we reached our destination. Humantay Lagoon (4,200 meters above sea level) is located at the foot of the snow-capped mountains Humantay (5,473 meters above sea level) and Salkantay (6,270 meters above sea level). The natural beauty of the lagoon creates a tranquil environment, removed from routine life, where one can express gratitude to the Apus and Pachamama through the K’intu ceremony (the ritual of the three coca leaves) and interact with nature.
