ITINERARY:
We’ll pick you up from your hotel between 8:00 and 8:20 am. We’ll then depart on our tourist bus to the town of Maras, located 40 km from Cusco. It has buildings of colonial houses, and was a place of passage and rest for the Spanish Conquistadors, it is also characterized by stone doorways with Spanish shields of Spanish families who lived at that time, later we will visit the Salt Mines which were of great help and importance, these mines have the shape of a polygon, since the time of the Incas it has been used until today, exploited and distributed, since each peasant family in the place has their own salt pools, on one side natural salt water runs and flows from an eye of the mountain that is distributed equitably among all the wells in an approximate of 6,000, which have traditionally been available to people who wanted to extract this mineral, currently, within the community an order has been established for the exploitation of these salt mines being the economic support for the most humble families that exist in the town of Maras.
Later we arrive at the Archaeological site better known as the MORAY Agricultural Laboratory. This is a system of terraces located 50 km from Cusco, in the Maras District, Urubamba Province, at 3,500 meters above sea level. At least 250 plant species were adapted to different climatic conditions here. This site may have also served astronomical purposes. The circular terraces are oriented to the winds, and the sun creates an adequate temperature for growing a variety of potatoes, corn, quinoa, kiwicha, and even coca, among others. It was an agricultural experimentation station for Inca plants.
After our guided tour, we will board our bus that will take us back to Cusco.
