Rainbow Mountain is another new and innovative adventure option, the second most visited place after Machu Picchu. It boasts multicolored landscapes and mysterious mountains, blending into the snow-capped mountains and deep valleys with Andean animals such as alpacas, llamas, sheep, and horses. If we’re lucky, we’ll see vicuñas and deer. Along the way, we’ll also get very close to the APU AUSANGATE snow-capped mountain, and next to it, the Red Mountain. After a 2-hour hike, we’ll arrive at the main Rainbow Mountain at 5,036 meters above sea level. On the way back, it’s only a 1-hour descent to reach the vehicle parking lot.
ITINERARY:
1-DAY MOUNTAIN TOUR
CUSCO – CUSIPATA – VEHICLE PARKING – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN.
The adventure begins at 4:30 am. With pick-up from your different hotels, and then we begin the trip to the south side of the city of Cusco, a 6-hour round trip by bus from Cusco – Cusipata / Car Parking / Cusipata – Cusco. Our trip is to a small town of CUSIPATA, 2 hours from Cusco, where we will enjoy a delicious typical breakfast, and then we will board our bus, again for 1 more hour to reach the car parking, then we will begin the 4 km walk for 3 hours round trip, uphill to reach the Rainbow Mountain, Cerro Apu Winicunca at 5,036 meters above sea level. Top of the mysterious Rainbow Mountain. From this point, we can also appreciate the sacred snow-capped mountain of APU AUSANGATE, known since the time of the Incas, and the mysterious Red Mountain. This is where we will take time to take videos and photographs, to remember the beautiful landscapes and multicolored mountains. Then, we will begin our descent to the parking lot. We will begin our return trip and stop about an hour later in the small town of Cusipata for our delicious and restorative buffet lunch. Then, we will board our bus that will take us back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:30 p.m.
